Description
Rome and the Legion
While the Eagle is the best known symbol of Rome’s Legions, early Legionnaires and Centurions often identified themselves by the patterns painted on the shields used by their cohort.
The incised pattern of this oval Roman Legion Ring is reminiscent of the geometric patterns often used as identifying symbols on the oval or rectangular shields used by many Legionnaire companies throughout Europe, Africa and the Mid-East in the first, second and third centuries A.D.
